A Gospel-Centered Philosophy of Youth Ministry

My partner in crime, Jon Nielson, just finished a three-part series on youth ministry at The Gospel Coalition Blog. Jon draws a balance between two extreme approaches to youth ministry: 1) the approach that isolates the youth ministry from the rest of the church, and 2) the approach that eliminates youth ministry in order to integrate students into the church.

I commend it as encouragement to flee the temptation to boost student numbers with the bait of fun and entertainment. Instead, with students – as with adults – fish with with gospel.

Jon’s three posts are:

1. Why Youth Stay in Church When They Grow Up

2. Family First in Youth Ministry and Discipleship

3. Youth Ministry Done Well for the Benefit of the Church.

Jon blogs at Something More Sure.
