This post is a follow up from my previous post, “Are Your Gospel-Centered Catch Phrases Biblical?”
I’ve provided thirteen examples of gospel-centered catch phrases below, along with verses from the Bible that express the idea the phrase is meant to communicate.
Remember, a gospel-centered catch phrase is one that connects “gospel” (as an adjective) with another biblical concept. The “gospel” is the cause – a unique, par excellence cause – and the noun it modifies is the result.
None of the verses below will be new to you. That’s kind of the point. It’s more effective to connect the meaning of a foreign phrase with a familiar verse. The “gospel” part is bold, the “effect” part is italicized.
13 biblical definitions of gospel-centered catch phrases
1. Gospel Hope
Ps. 42:5 Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation

5. Gospel Joy
Ps. 35:9 Then my soul will rejoice in the LORD, exulting in his salvation.

6. Gospel Growth

Eph. 4:15-16 Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ.
7. Gospel Mission
Matt. 28:18-20 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Eph. 2:8-10 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

Phil. 4:18-19 I am well supplied, having received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent, a fragrant offering, a sacrifice acceptable and pleasing to God. And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
12. Gospel Repentance
Acts 2:37-38 Now when they heard this [i.e., the gospel] they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”

Matt. 5:4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
2 Cor. 7:10 For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas worldly grief produces death.
